Food Security Campaign
Isiseko remains committed to combating food insecurity in schools across vulnerable communities. Every initiative we undertake is driven by the belief that no child should have to learn on an empty stomach.
In South Africa, an estimated 1.9 million learners go to school each day without receiving a meal, and for many of those who do, the school meal provided through the National School Nutrition Programme is the only meal they will have that day. By supporting feeding schemes and partnering with schools in need, Isiseko continues to help ensure that children have access to nutritious meals—allowing them to focus, learn, and thrive.

Winter Campaign
Isiseko continues to strengthen its impact in vulnerable school communities, focusing on the everyday realities that shape a child’s ability to learn and thrive.
Across South Africa, an estimated 1.9 million learners arrive at school each day without receiving a meal, and for many, the daily school meal is the only nourishment they can rely on. These challenges extend beyond hunger—children often face the school day without the basic essentials that support dignity and confidence.

This winter, Isiseko proudly stepped in to make a tangible difference by providing over 100 learners with much-needed school shoes and socks. For many children, this simple pair of shoes is more than just footwear—it is protection, comfort, and a renewed sense of pride walking into the classroom. Through initiatives like these, Isiseko continues to champion the wellbeing of learners, ensuring that each child feels supported, seen, and empowered to succeed.

Beach Clean Up
To mark Isiseko's first birthday, the team and our volunteers took to Muizenberg Beach for a beach clean up.
Beach clean-ups are crucial for preserving marine ecosystems and protecting wildlife. The team removed harmful debris, majority of which was plastic waste. Litter and debris are incredibly harmful to the ocean and its kills creatures animals and destroys their habitats.
Through these initiatives we wish to promote the importance of ocean and environment conservation efforts. Additionally, we wish raise awareness about the impact of pollution in oceans by inspiring communities to adopt sustainable and simple practices.

Women's Day Coaching Workshop
To mark Isiseko's first celebration of Women's Day the team partnered with qualified coaches to host an empowerment workshop for local teachers and teacher's assistants at a local school.

The event saw coaches take teachers and teacher's assistants through sharing their lived experiences and providing them with practices that can be employed in the classroom and in their everyday lives.

Coaching and mindfulness enhance classroom and life experiences by promoting self-awareness, emotional regulation, and empathy. In education, these practices foster student well-being, resilience, and academic success. Beyond classrooms, they cultivate healthier relationships, reduce stress, and improve decision-making, ultimately leading to more fulfilling and balanced lives.

School Improvement Project
ASIMBONANGA - translated means “We have not seen him”.
The phrase is written to reflect the late Madiba and the prohibition of his images during Apartheid. The phrase implies that the work he has started in binding together a nation has not yet been completed. It is a call to us, the new generation of South Africans, to find inspiration in his work, continue on in his legacy, and build a better nation. Together we can do it.
This Mandela Day, with the sponsorship of Build It Ottery and public donors, the Isiseko team & volunteers painted the lavatories at Cypress Primary School.
Our work here is still not done and the school is in desperate need of additional work but your contributions have helped tremendously in stepping to improve the school.
Thank you to all volunteers and donors!

Isiseko's Winter Drive
To mark Isiseko’s first Nelson Mandela Day we distributed our rain jacket and socks hampers to learners at Hazendal Primary School and Cypress Primary School.
A big thank you to everyone for donating and sharing our initiative. Learners often miss school due to not having winter clothing resulting in valuable learning hours lost.
“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

Corporate Team Building Event
Isiseko in Partnership with Woolworths Financial Service, Rotary Club, and Catering Emporium were able to provide 756 sandwiches and fruit to the student body at Cypress Primary School.
Cypress Primary School is located in Bridgetown, Western Cape. The school is comprised of students from varying black and coloured townships in Cape Town, many of whom come from single parent (or grandparent) households. The mere R550.00 annual school fee is too much for these households to afford.
The school feeds approximately 300+ students per day with a government allowance of only 150 students. The sandwiches and fruit provided by Woolworths Financial Service, Rotary Club, and Catering Emporium ensured that every learner was sufficiently fed - and had a little something to take home.
The disparity between many of our lives are so vast but today showed that collectively we can be the difference.

Food Crisis on the Cape Flats
Food security is a major issue in South Africa, with many children going hungry every day. The National School Nutrition Programme (NSNP) aims to provide meals to all students, but approximately 1.9 million students are not receiving meals, leaving them vulnerable to the effects of malnutrition. In fact, more than one in four children in South Africa are not the appropriate height for their age due to poor nutrition.
Not only does hunger make it difficult for children to focus and learn at school, but it also makes them vulnerable to manipulation by external forces. This is why it is so important to ensure that children are well-fed and able to focus in school.
In elevating hunger and helping students strive, the team at Isiseko partnered with the community and private stakeholders, to provide meals to those in need on the Cape Flats. With the help of our generous donors, including Blue Ribbon Bakery and Catering Emporium, the team was able to provide 720 sandwiches to the community members.

By addressing the food crisis and ensuring that children in impoverished communities have access to nutritious meals we step towards creating a brighter future for all South Africans.
We express our continual gratitude to our donors, Blue Ribbon Bakery and Catering Emporium, and the general public for their overwhelming support and kindness.
